In October 2014, Governor Brown signed AB 1826, requiring businesses and multifamily dwellings to recycle their organic waste on and after April 1, 2016, depending on the amount of waste they generate per week. The law phases in the mandatory recycling of commercial organics over time using decreasing minimum thresholds of waste generation by businesses and multifamily dwellings.
As of January 1, 2019, business and multifamily dwellings that generate more than 4 cubic yards of solid waste per week must arrange for organic recycling. The City of Vacaville’s contracted waste hauler, Recology Vacaville Solano, has a variety of service options to help every type of businesses meet these new requirements.
