MANDATORY COMMERCIAL RECYCLING

Per California State law AB 341, effective July 1, 2012, all businesses and public entities that generate four cubic yards or more of waste per week must have a recycling program. In addition, multi-family residences with 5 or more units, regardless of weekly waste generated, are also required to have a recycling program.

COMMERCIAL ORGANIC RECYCLING

In September 2016, Governor Brown signed into law Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383), establishing methane emissions reduction targets in a statewide effort to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants. NOTE: Tree and shrub prunings must be cut small enough to fit inside the cart with the lid completely closed. Extra tree and shrub prunings may be placed in 32 gallon cans with lids and handles or bundled no larger than 2’x3’, using twine (no wire), then placed next to the green bin on your collection day.

COMMERCIAL HAZARDOUS WASTE

Vacaville offers a CESQG (Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator) program for local businesses to provide an easy and economical way to dispose of hazardous waste that is generated from a business. A small quantity generator is defined as a business that generates less than 220 lbs. or 27 gallons of hazardous waste per month. Businesses that commonly participate in this program include painters, printers, labs, artists, builders, property managers, vehicle repair, landscape contractors, pest control companies and photo finishing shops.

PAINT

Since the start of the California paint stewardship program on October 19, 2012, PaintCare has set up 650 drop-off sites in California where the public can take unwanted, leftover paint for recycling. Most of these sites are at paint retailers (paint, hardware, and home improvement stores) that have volunteered to take back paint, and they are available to any resident and business in California. These stores accept paint whenever they are open for business.

Please note: Businesses that produce more than 220 pounds (about 20-30 gallons) of hazardous waste per month may use the drop-off sites for latex paint only. Contact PaintCare at (855) 724-6809 to learn more about the restriction. If you have at least 300 gallons of paint to recycle at your business, please contact PaintCare to learn about their free pickup service.
